Playlists
Create, organize, and manage collections of tracks. Playlists are persisted between sessions and can be reordered with drag-and-drop.
Creating a Playlist
Open the Playlists tab from the bottom navigation.
Tap the New Playlist button (plus icon).
Enter a name for your playlist and confirm.
Your new playlist appears in the list. Tap it to open and start adding tracks.
Adding Tracks
There are two ways to add tracks to a playlist:
From the Library
Long-press any track in the Library.
Select Add to Playlist from the context menu.
Choose the destination playlist from the list.
From Within a Playlist
Open the playlist and tap the Add button.
Search or browse your library for tracks to add.
Tap a track to add it to the playlist.
Reordering Tracks
Drag and drop tracks within a playlist to reorder them. Long-press the handle icon on the right side of any track and drag it to the new position.
Removing Tracks
Swipe left on any track within a playlist to remove it. The track is removed from the playlist but remains in your library.
Renaming a Playlist
Long-press the playlist in the Playlists tab.
Select Rename from the context menu.
Enter the new name and confirm.
Deleting a Playlist
Long-press the playlist in the Playlists tab.
Select Delete from the context menu.
Confirm the deletion. This removes the playlist but does not delete the tracks from your library.
Playing a Playlist
Tap a playlist to open it, then tap the Play button at the top to start playing all tracks in order. The entire playlist is loaded into the queue.
Playlist Cover Art
Each playlist displays a collage of album artworks from its tracks. The collage updates automatically as tracks are added or removed.
Persistence
Playlists are saved to persistent storage using AsyncStorage. They survive app restarts and are preserved across sessions. Each playlist has a unique ID to prevent collisions.
Smart Playlists
In addition to manual playlists, Coda supports smart playlists — dynamic collections defined by rules. Smart playlists automatically update as your library changes.
For example, a smart playlist with the rule "Play count ≥ 5" always shows your most-played songs without manual curation.
See the Smart Playlists page for the full guide on creating and managing rule-based playlists.
