Audio Effects
Shape your listening experience with a native 5-band equalizer, playback speed control, and volume adjustment.
Accessing Audio Effects
Open the Player screen.
Tap the More menu (three dots) in the bottom-right.
Select Audio Effects from the menu.
Equalizer
Coda includes a native 5-band equalizer built with platform audio APIs (AVAudioUnitEQ on iOS, android.media.audiofx.Equalizer on Android). The equalizer operates directly on the audio engine for low-latency, high-quality frequency adjustment.
Bands
Each band targets a specific frequency range. Drag the vertical sliders to adjust gain from -12 dB (cut) to +12 dB (boost):
- 60 Hz — Bass — Sub-bass and kick drum body
- 230 Hz — Low-Mid — Warmth, fullness, and muddiness
- 910 Hz — Mid — Vocal presence and instrument body
- 3.6 kHz — High-Mid — Clarity, attack, and articulation
- 14 kHz — Treble — Air, sparkle, and cymbal shimmer
Presets
Six built-in presets provide quick starting points. Tap a preset chip to apply it instantly:
Flat (Default)
All bands at 0 dB. No frequency adjustment — plays audio exactly as it was mastered.
Bass Boost
Boosts the low end with +6 dB at 60 Hz and +4 dB at 230 Hz, while gently rolling off the treble. Adds warmth and depth without overwhelming the mix.
- Best for: Hip-hop, EDM, R&B, cinematic soundtracks
Treble
Rolls off the bass and boosts the high frequencies. Brings clarity and air to the top end.
- Best for: Classical, jazz, acoustic, podcasts
Vocal
Emphasizes the mid-range where vocals live (910 Hz and 3.6 kHz). Brings voices to the front of the mix while taming the extreme lows and highs.
- Best for: Vocals, singer-songwriter, spoken word, audiobooks
Rock
A classic V-shaped curve — boosted bass and treble with a slight mid scoop. Adds punch and energy to guitar-driven music.
- Best for: Rock, metal, punk, alternative
Pop
A gentle mid-boost that emphasizes vocals and clarity without harshness. Subtle bass and treble adjustments keep the sound clean and radio-ready.
- Best for: Pop, indie, folk, acoustic
✦Custom Presets
Enabling / Disabling
Use the ON / OFF toggle at the top of the equalizer section to enable or disable the EQ. When disabled, audio bypasses the equalizer entirely with zero processing overhead. Your band settings are preserved when you toggle it off.
Playback Speed
Adjust playback speed using the speed chips. This affects both audio pitch and tempo.
- 0.5x — Half speed, useful for practice or analysis
- 0.75x — Slightly slower, good for language learning
- 1.0x — Normal playback (default)
- 1.25x — Slightly faster, great for podcasts
- 1.5x — Noticeably faster
- 1.75x — Fast, useful for quick review
- 2.0x — Double speed
✦Podcast Tip
Volume
The master volume is controlled via discrete chip buttons (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) and adjusts the overall output level independently of your device's system volume.
Volume and Crossfade
When crossfade is enabled, Coda respects your volume setting during transitions. The volume ramp between tracks starts and ends at your configured level.
Sleep Timer Fade Out
When the sleep timer is active, Coda ramps down the volume during the last 30 seconds. The fade starts from your current volume level and smoothly reduces to zero, providing a gentle transition to silence.
